ECONOMIC ENGINE
(A Geezil Opinion)
A family of six has a ten year old car that they need desperately to allow the father to drive to work. It has some dents, some broken parts in the grille, torn seats and a cracked window. Today the engine quit running.
A family meeting to deal with the problem of the worn out car produced these results. Mary the matriarch wanted to repair the upholstery, Bill the oldest son wanted to repair the dents, Sonny the number 2 son wanted to repair the grille, Jilly the eldest daughter wanted to repair the window and Beth wanted to repaint it.
The father said we really need a new car but since I am the only one producing in this family, our budget doesn’t allow that; we need to fix the engine. He further stated “our family is a democracy so we will vote on the solution”; the final vote was five to one against fixing the engine.
Six different views about what needed to be fixed on the car resulted in nothing being fixed; the father lost his job and the family went on welfare. Mary remarked “this isn’t so bad; we’re living about as well as before”.
There are several lessons to be learned in that story. First; the ability of Congress, with 435 house members and 100 Senators, is like the family when they attempt to design a stimulus package for the economy. Everyone wants to gain something from it; consequently the economy won’t be fixed.
Second; the engine of our economy is private business enterprise and capitalism. Like the engine in the family car, our economy with no engine will prevent any of us from getting to work.
Third; living on welfare encourages many people to embrace socialism.
Fourth; unless more people produce nobody can afford a new car.
Fifth; our representative democracy doesn’t work well when we have piss poor leadership.
Further analysis of those lessons is needed. The first lesson makes it clear that 535 individuals with differing interests should not have the power to manage. We elect representatives to be our advocates, not for management of anything, especially our supposedly free economy. The largest corporation in the world would fail with 535 managers, unfortunately many are!
Second lesson; our economy is comprised of people producing something (creation of wealth) and an interchange of business activity that involves services to deliver portions of that wealth to consumers; that is our economic engine. Government services, that create nothing, are lumped into the economic figures, choking the carburetor of our economic engine because government is too large and uses too much of the air.
Third lesson; politicians that advocate socialism as the best way to govern our society work tirelessly to create victims. The more people who are convinced they have an entitlement to basic living standards, the more we destroy individual initiative which creates support for socialism.
Fourth lesson; wealth is created by production, if we don’t produce we can’t purchase without borrowing.
Fifth lesson; leadership, if a company’s board of directors resists and stand in the way of the CEO’s ability to manage, it will fail. The father of the family should have exercised more leadership when he knew that fixing the engine was the highest priority.
I did this comparison of a theoretical family’s finances because it does compare to our nations finances, the mistakes being made are the same. If our nation does not repair its economic engine with the right parts (free market parts), we will all be victims and told how to live our miserable lives.
The Constitutional Conundrum
(A Geezil Opinion)
Our founders, who labored long and hard to write the constitution of the United States, tried to fashion a document that limited the power of the central government in order to retain the freedom of the individual. For over two hundred years some American Citizens have worked to circumvent our constitution by adding more and more central government control, and in recent years have been quite successful by utilizing political action groups that want to advance that agenda.
Political action organizations lobby Congress for favorable legislation to advance their agenda and many times are financed by puppeteers behind the scenes in order to hide their true agenda. Since politicians only look at numbers of potential votes, and rarely read any legislation before Congress, these political organizations can wield real power to influence government policy.
A news report prompted me to write this article. The political action group ACORN, which was quite instrumental in helping to elect President Obama, won a decision by a Federal Court Judge yesterday who ruled the decision by Congress to withhold earmarked funds for ACORN, which was buried in legislation to stimulate the economy, was unconstitutional. That stimulus bill was passed this year by Congress, and signed into law by the president. You may remember how ACORN’s activities were discredited by some undercover videos that embarrassed many Congress people who probably never read the bill and didn’t realize the funds for ACORN were even contained in it. Those responsible for the earmark no longer wanted to be associated with ACORN (at least visibly) and joined other members in removing those funds.
The conundrum is this; ACORN, whose activities often try to circumvent our constitution, uses its constitutional rights to sue our government, and win!
I’m not a lawyer (thank God), but that judge may be correct in his/her decision because our founders created separate powers of government to protect us from dictators. This appears to be a case where more than half of our representatives wanted the funding hidden in the bill or were more concerned with re-election than attending to their job. That’s really not too surprising, but that is how modern Washington works and it has destroyed our Republic.
This ruling forces American taxpayers to finance the activities of ACORN, whether they agree with their agenda or not. How about this; we make Congress itself, the income tax code, and the FED, unconstitutional. The games our politicians play make carneys on the midway look like saints.
Party politics, and indifference by American Citizens, is the reason our Republic has evolved into a Representative Democracy that is not working, and even our Democracy is on the verge of evolving into something worse, like Fascism or Socialism. Wake up America; get your head out of the sand! A free society can only exist when more than 50% care enough about liberty to retain it.
Generally politicians use slight of hand when promising things for votes, but President Obama told us exactly what his plan was to transform America. Many supporters of the President, and voters who comprise the Democratic base, such as ACORN, actively support Socialism and re-distribution of wealth, but what about all the other people—what did they hear? As usual in presidential elections too many people didn’t listen, they voted for a charismatic person who promised hope. Had they listened they would have heard candidate Obama’s views about our Constitution as well as many other leftist positions.
Our Constitution was written to protect our liberties but indifference and greed on the part of American Citizens, when politicians offer up goodies for votes, has destroyed our economy, our financial system, and is definitely unconstitutional. Nowhere in the constitution does it say government should provide anything except opportunity to its citizens, definitely not force them to buy something.
Many political decisions to circumvent our constitution have occurred through the years but maybe the most blatant one, which turned our Republic in a completely opposite direction, was President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s decision to force American Citizens to buy something. It was the enactment of the FICA (Social Security) that forced Americans to buy retirement insurance, which has turned out to be nothing more than a giant Ponzi scheme.
This was the point in the evolution of our country when progressive politicians learned how to use an emergency to inject more government control (unconstitutionally). Sometimes government resources are needed in emergencies like wars, natural disasters, and possibly economic downturns, but should not infringe on our Constitution. Government resources should be used, only when necessary, to help private businesses solve an emergency; think for a moment if FICA had been structured to be managed by private insurance companies and allowed to compete for maximum efficiency, would we have a retirement system that today has unfunded promises (deficit) of $14,000,000,000,000 plus another $74,000,000,000,000 for Medicare that was added to the program in the 1960’s?
When President Obama said, during the campaign, that our Constitution needed to be more flexible because it only deals with what government can’t do to you rather than what government should do for you, is really telling about the progressive agenda. The progressives have many emergencies today to allow them to add more and more government control; if we let them! Only when enough citizens take the time to listen and really understand what is being said, and stop using hope for solutions, can we restore our economy and our liberties.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BANKRUPTCY
(A Geezil Opinion)
President Obama made a statement today during an interview by a news source; he said unless Congress passes legislation for reform of health care the Federal Government will go bankrupt. I hear that threat all the time from various sources, if we don’t do this or that we’ll go bankrupt or the meltdown will hurt people on Main Street. The use of fear to advance an agenda evidently works in politics. Time to wake up America! The first item for American Citizens is the need to understand what bankruptcy is. I’m sure President Obama understands the definition of bankruptcy, which is when your financial liabilities exceed your assets. The threat, however, is toothless when you tell the nation the truth, which is, the Federal Government is already bankrupt. This is a devious play on words, the way all politicians work to achieve their agenda.
The fix for bankruptcy is simple, stop spending, tighten your belt, and work harder to generate more income. I didn’t say it was easy, I said it was simple. If politicians were honest with American Citizens they would simply say “we have made serious errors of judgment and it will cost you plenty to avoid further damage to our economy, and to avoid forcing our children and grandchildren to pay for our extravagance”. We all know politicians are not honest with us, so why do so many buy their snake oil? Isn’t there more than 50% of American Citizens that are adult enough to be treated like adults?
Sometimes we tell white lies to our children because we understand they are immature, and a true explanation would be confusing for them, however, if we said to them “we are spending your future so we can live better now”, I believe they would comprehend. Politicians tell us the future is very rosy, just spend, increase your debt, and the economy will improve. It appears the intent is to inflate our currency to allow government to pay down our impossible debt with dollars that have little worth.
Spending our way out of debt is simply creating enough worthless currency to pay for liabilities incurred beyond our ability to pay. It never works, like all pyramid schemes it eventually will fall. Inflating currency is the most immoral and devious means ever devised for hiding taxes from citizens. The burden falls on the productive segment of our society, which has already been decimated by greed from our government leadership.
If American Citizens don’t have the courage to face the problems with our economy, pull their head out of the sand and face the problems like adults, our leaders will continue to treat us like children. Bankruptcy is not immoral, our nation has laws to allow people, and businesses, to recover and restructure debt when circumstances put them in financial difficulty. Ignoring the fact that you are bankrupt and continuing the practices that put you there is very immoral.
The reality is government leaders, for lots of reasons, don’t have the ability or the desire to deal with the financial problems in modern America, politicians use emergencies to advance political agendas. The money interests, big banks and big financial institutions control policy and set the course of action not only in America, but world wide. The FED (Federal Reserve System) a private central bank (system is another play on words) is the entity that establishes financial policy for the United States and much of the world.
Ben Bernanke is the chairman of the FED, he and a board of governors are appointed by the President, but the FED is still a private bank that is not subject to audit by American Citizens. Ben Bernanke, who was featured on the cover of Time as “person of the year 2009”, said during an interview that he didn’t see the financial meltdown coming, (you probably still remember the meltdown that destroyed half of our personal asset value, and retirement funds). If he, Mr. Bernanke, the guru of finances in America, was unable to see the possibility of the crash, how are we to have faith now when we are asked to follow his policy as we continue on this plan to print however many dollars it takes to protect us on Main Street? Or is it to protect financial institutions that are also bankrupt by definition?
One way or the other, Americans are going to be faced with a reduced standard of living to pay for this madness, in the form of higher prices, devalued money, poorer healthcare, and unemployment, all because we have been fiscally irresponsible as citizens, and as a nation. Our choices are. (1) We elect to work out of that lower standard while restoring the productive forces that built America. (2) Transform America into the progressive dream, which will commit citizens to a reduced standard of living forever.
I’m not at all sure about the rest of America, but I’m ready to hear the truth. Until we face the truth, and take our medicine, we will continue to kick the can down the road till it lands on our grandchildren. No more word games please.
